描述Safflower yellow (SY) is the main active component in the traditional Chinese medicine safflower, modulates inflammatory responses by acting directly on BV2 microglia. SY could attenuate apoptosis and SCIRI (spinal cord ischemia reperfusion injury) by enhancing Bcl-2 expression and inhibiting Bax and caspase-3 activation^[3]. Safflower yellow reduced fat mass, decreased glucose levels and improved insulin sensitivity in obese mice. SY also increased the mRNA levels of insulin signaling pathway-related genes, and increased PPARγ2 mRNA levels by 39.1% in subcutaneous adipose tissue. In vitro, SY and hydroxysafflor yellow A significantly enhanced PPARγ2 promoter activities by 1.3-2.1-fold, and increased PPARγ2 mRNA levels by 1.2-1.6-fold in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes or adipocytes^[4]. SY and HSYA (ydroxysafflor yellow A) significantly decreased the body weight gain of DIO (Diet-induced obese) mice, and decreased fat mass to 57.8% and 61.6% of the control mice, respectively^[5]. Safflower yellow treatment of AECOPD (acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) may relieve the patient's clinical symptoms, such as dyspnoea, shorten the average length of hospital stay, and decrease the duration of mechanical ventilation^[6].
