Minoxidil sulfate is a K+ channel agonist and a strong vascular smooth muscle relaxant. It has been shown to relax norepinephrine contraction, and is reported to be a vasodilator. Minoxidil sulfate has been used to better understand the blood-brain tumor barrier in syngeneic and allogeneic rat studies and has demonstrated to increase tumor permeability.

描述Minoxidil sulfate (MS), a potent and ATP-sensitive K+ channel opener, is the sulfated metabolite of minoxidil. It also is a vasodilator to promote hair growth in vivo. MS might increase BTB (blood-tumor barrier) permeability in a time-dependent manner by down-regulating TJ protein expression. Minoxidil sulfate (1-100 μM; 2 hours) significantly reduces the permeability of bloode-brain tumor barrier (BTB) in a monolayer of RBMEC in a time-dependent manner, additionally,the effects of MS on transendothelial electrical resistance (TEER) is Transendothelial electrical resistance (TEER) at 2 h with high concentration^[1]. MS at 100 μM increased the generation of ROS (reactive oxygen species), and MS-induced permeability increase was attenuated after co-exposure to 50 μM N-acetyl cysteine^[2]. Minoxidil sulfate inhibited CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator) Cl- currents. 40 microM minoxidil sulfate has half-maximal inhibition^[3].
