Lycorine, a natural product isolated and purified from the bulbus of Lycoris radiata (L. Herit.) Herb, has anti-cancer effect that dependent on STAT expression.
Lycorine, a natural alkaloid extracted from the Amaryllidaceae plant family, has the potential effect against cancer. Lycorine inhibited proliferation of various PCa cell lines, induced cell apoptosis and cell death. Lycorine inhibited both growth and metastasis in multiple organs (liver, lung, kidney, spleen and bone) in vivo and improved mice survival. Lycorine prevented EGF-induced JAK/STAT signaling[3]. Lycorine could alleviate LPS-induced lung injury of inflammation and oxidative stress by blocking the HMGB1/TLRs/NF-κB pathway[4]. Lycorine may inhibit tumor growth of OS (Osteosarcoma) cells possibly through suppressing Wnt/β-catenin, ERK1/2 and PI3K/AKT signaling pathway[5]. Lycorine (5-40 μM; 16 hours) significantly suppresses SREBFs activity (up to -70%) in a dose-dependent manner and does not cause obvious cytotoxicity in cells. Lycorine (10-20 μM; 2-16 hours) dose- and time-dependently decreases the mature SREBF1 and SREBF2 proteins in HL-7702 cells[6].
